This piece is inspired by the potential and beauty I see in every intriguing "offcut," regardless of size. The table is crafted from nearly 300 individual pieces, meticulously arranged on a stable birch substrate to accommodate the varying expansion and contraction rates of different wood species, all nestled within a delicate frame of black resin. The base pays homage to sustainability, as it originates from a house built in the 1960s.
The tabletop showcases a captivating mosaic of diverse wood species, including Hairy oak, Silky oak, Walnut, Spotted gum, Blackbutt, Cypress, Cedar, Kwila, Jarrah, Blue gum, and Camphor laurel.
The curved frame seamlessly transitions into angled, tapered legs, while a shallow bevel cut around the perimeter creates an illusion of slimness and delicacy. Adding a thoughtful touch, a set of matching coasters, crafted with the same exquisite attention to detail, accompanies the table. Sealed with a clear coat of epoxy resin, these coasters are stain-resistant, ensuring longevity alongside this mid-century modern table.
While this is a one-of-a-kind unique piece, I am able to create similar items upon request.
